per qt. for Motul (of which the E-Tech 0W-40, which was supposed to be so great was stopped being made) or others. The German Castrol Syntec 0W-30 always looks good and has the 502 approval but I rather use a 40 weight. Plus, there is no 0W-30 on the approved oil list (although there is 5W-30 so it is the same) and I'd like to do 0W-40 or 5W-40, preferably. I was going to go for Elf Excellium NF (formerly LDX...same formula, different name). Is this good? Is it as good as Liqui-Moly? It's supposed to be great and it has the 502?

It really is not going to matter a lot if you do changes at 5K miles....
you can use any high quality one such as those on the 502 list and be fine...including M1 0w-40. In a review of oil analysis on mulitiple RS4 cars there wasnt any statistically sig difference between 11 different oils used.

There was an RS4 owner on BITOG slamming every oil for the RS4 except this one weird
little unknown oil. And maybe Lubro-Moly. This is after UOA's. And M1 on BITOG gets a bad rep. Bad UOA's frequently with it shearing down.

Yup, that is the study I am referring to...
and a person on this forum put his results into analysis and found that actually there was no sig. difference between ANY of the oils tested. You'll get shearing from most 0w-40 oils including expensive Motul 0w-40. This doesnt mean the motor will not last for 200K miles either. Again, it really wont matter if you do the oil changes at 5K miles. People put in hours and hours of their life trying to find the "right oil" for their car doing extended changes and I can tell you it may last no longer then the guy next door doing 3K mile changes using wal-mart oil. Stick to a vw502 oil and do 5K mile changes and any time spent after that is pointless IMO.

Re: Oil suggestion for the 2.0T FSI.
At the Audi dealership I work at we use castrol syntec 5w40. If you want I can get you the new approved oil list from Audi. Theyve recently updated the list.

Dr Mike, Bob W did not know how to do the statistaical analysis correctly
He is quite correct that there seems to be no statistical difference between 502 approved oil performance. However, there is a significant difference between all 502 oils and RLI Biosyn 5W40, which has stood up over time.
The data has withstood peer-review at Chevron Phillips Chemical (a major manufacturer of high-performance PAO base oils) and the Society for Tribological and Lubrication Engineers, and has been presented to professionals in the field, including those at Lubrizol, one of the leading manufacturers of oil additive packages.

ANY 5w-40 works fine. Syntec 5w-40 is kinda sucky, but the 0w-30 is awesomey.
The only 30 weight that are ok in Euro apps are the thicker Euro 30 oils, on the heavy end of the 30 range...like Syntec 0w-30 and MaxLife Synth 5w and 10w-30.
I already posted some info above.
