1999 a4 1.9 tdi cruise control retrofit tutorial/parts list required
Hi, I have been asked to retrofit cruise control on my friends audi a4 1.9 tdi 1999.
He has given me the stalk with the cruise switches on it. I'm guessing it will need additional wiring to engine ecu. I'm assuming that it will use info from existing inputs (pedal switches etc) I have vag-com so if it needs recoding then that side of it should not be an issue. Any help would be appreciated. Kind regards Gary

I believe there is a control box that runs the thing. In my A6 it is behind the glovebox. There may be other components as well. I assume your friend's A4 also has a mechanical throttle cable. You will need to control the throttle somehow. More to it than I would get into.

Hello, do you have any update on this issue?
I have a same 1999 A4 B5 1,9 TDI 110 HP.
I would like to fit a cruise control.
Can you help which wire belongs to which ECU connector?
Thanks in advance.

Retrofitting an OEM Cruise Control to a B5 could be a bit of a challenge as there are a number of required components. A cruise module located behind the glove compartment, separate vacuum switches at the brake and clutch pedals, a cruise vacuum pump located below the ABS unit, accessed from the left wheel well, a vacuum bellows connected to the throttle linkage and the stalk switch. I've had issues with these various components failing on over the years, with lack of available new parts, deciding to install an aftermarket Rostra Universal Cruise Control, which I just finished. Man, it was a challenge getting it installed due to physical space and location requirements but it's finally all in and working. I'm just dealing with some fine adjustments in the setting switches related to sensitivity and surging but am getting it dialed in. I'm not totally sure that I would recommend this as it was a pain but if you're up for the challenge, it does work in the end.
A couple of photos, one showing the only location I could make work for the Rostra Cruise unit and the other how I attached the cable to the throttle linkage. I have the 2.8L SOHC AFC engine.

Hello desertsage,
thank you for your reply.
But my car has electronic throttle control, cruise modul, vacuum etc not required for facelift B5.
I need to plug the cruise control wires to the ECU and turn on the cruise control function in VAGCOM.
My question is where to plug the wires in the ECU?
thank you for your reply.
