Default '99 AEB brake light on solid, how to troubleshoot?

I have a pre-life '99 AEB that has the brake light on solid. When you lift the parking brake it gets slightly brighter, but ABS/fluid/everything seems to be OK. VAG-COM came up empty too.

The PO put S4 uprights on with new calipers on all 4 corners, but I don't see how that could affect anything since they're all functioning properly. Where do I begin to troubleshoot?

Thanks

Do your brakes have pad sensors?
Did the pad sensors get plugged in when they upgraded the calipers (& pads)?

I'm pre-facelift, I'm pretty sure that I don't have wear sensors.

The most common cause for this kind of situation is a bad brake light switch. its a cheap part that is easy to replace. you might want to give this a try before you spend too much time trying to chase down the problem.

Take the electrical connector off the brake fluid sensor, is the light still on? now jump the 2 pins with a paper clip, is the light still on?

I had the car at the dealer for a bad ICU that went out while I was road tripping, had them check it out. It's brake wear sensors, or the lack there of on my pads. I'm happy to know that I can easily solve this.

I was almost sure, based on my searches, that I didn't have them. My car was a Oct '98 built MY1999.
