Default ATTN: CHICAGO AREA AUDI OWNERS ***********

Attention Fellow A4 owners!

***** Warning ***** Schaumburg Audi ***** Warning *****
I was just at my dealer for my first 7500 service. I've never been a dealer that has been so unwilling to help the customer. I've owned Chevy's, Pontiacs, Dodges, Toyota, & Mitsubishi's, but I never worked with a delaer that frustrated my more than Schaumburg Audi in Schaumburg, Illinois. I requested to have my 7500 mile service, no problem. I wanted to have my windshield washer adjusted, no problem. I then asked to have my control module reprogrammed to add Window Up/Sunroof close, and Window Down with remote. The talked about it in the back room for awhile then they told me that wouldn't do it. Ok Fine, then I told them I've been having problems with my remote control range. When I came out of work to go to the dealer I had to press the remote against the drivers side window and press the unlock button 4 or 5 times. I have a 98.5 A4 2.8, I show them the following printout:
Audi Technical Bulletin
Subject: Folding Key (Keyless Remote Transmitter), Increasing Distance Range
Model(s): A4 Sedan 1998
Group: 57
Number: 98-02
Date: June 16, 1998
Condition: Low remote transmitter range (remote functions operate only within 5 feet or less).
Production: Improved transmitter begining production 03.98 with VIN: 8DW128920

Have your dealer order part # 8D1 971 650A - remote transmitter antenna lead.
When procedure applies to vehicles within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, use the following:
Part Identifier: 5708
Labor Operation 5708510 60TU
The service advisor took my remote when out by my car and said he wouldn't fix it, your remote works now. That may have been the case, I told him I don't know if it works now because my car is inside, but 75% of the time the range is horrible. He said, unless you can show us, we won't fix it. He walked back into his room and slammed the door. I then had the same conversation with the service manager. I then told them I didn't want them to even touch my car I'll find a good dealer and left. On my way home is called Audi USA and filed a complaint against the dealer. I'm now going to try Laurel Audi in Westmont, Illinois. I've seen several people post messages on the net who's dealers have reprogrammed their control modules and didn't even charge for it, and I was will to pay. I regards to the remote range issue, I think they disliked the fact that I was an educated consumer and new more about the car than they did!!
If anyone is thinking about going to Schaumburg Audi in Schaumburg, Illinois for new car or service, think twice!!!!!!!
Thank you,
Brad Bilut / Schaumburg, Illinois

Default Brad, read this and then email me.

Schaumburg Audi was equally rude to me. I asked them for lift time to do trans. work on my car. They said they'd charge me $70 bucks an hour for lift time. I get my credit card bill, it's $1000 for lift time.
I have Mastercard chasing them as we speak, and I haven't been back to that dealer since. Never plan to go back.
The guys at Motorwerks in Barrington know what they're doing, I've had nothing but good experiences there. And the Porsche guys there love to play around with Audi modifications and other stuff, great people. They aren't an Audi dealer, so they can't do warranty work, but they'll do anything else (install A! stuff, System S, Recaros, suspension mods, transmission work, etc.) We should meet up and talk cars sometime, are you a member of the Meadow Club (Golf East of 53 between 53 and Wilke Road). Otherwise, we'll meet some other place.
But, we should definitely get a group of Chicago A4 owners together to do stuff.
Cameron

That is interesting. I have brought my car back twice for B-Pillar rattle removal (they failed both times) and they were pretty friendly. The service manager called me after I had told the phone follow-up person that the problem was not fixed and he was pretty nice there, too. The sales folks are not the greatest, but, then again, I had to nearly beg to get a Motorwerks person to talk to me and the Patrick BMW dealers were somewhat slimy.
So, just as a nearly different point of view, Shaumburg Audi has not treated me too poorly. Of course, they have never actually fixed a problem, and they gave me the absolute worst Subaru ever as a rental, but...
--frank

Default McGrath in Glenview

McGrath Acura in Glenview recently picked up Audi. I bought my A4 from them in mid July. They reconfigured my control module for free, although, on the phone they said I would be charged. I took the car in for a basic look see before I left for a 3500 mile road trip (I'm currently in Florida) and they topped off all of the fluids and recoded the control module. The Audi tech, Mark, I think, knew what I was talking about and was able to do the change without any info from me, except what changes I wanted. I owned a 90 Integra, bought from McGrath and have had great experiences with them. It's a bit of a haul, but worth it. I talked to Laurel when I was looking at getting my control module done, they said no dice! McGrath was the only Chicagoland dealer who told me they would do it.
Good luck.

A friend of mine had a very bad experience with Laurel's Audi Service Dept. some years ago.
