Why is this part so damned expensive?! It costs more that the rear muffler!! I've seen prices as high $900 to as low as $218! Un f'n believable. I was thinking of having a custom Exhaust shop put something universal in but they can't seem to find one that would fit. WTF! Any suggestions? Don't want to run without one cause we have a sound ordinance here.

What's wrong with yours? I've never ran into any issues, aside from the flex pipe breaking on any of my audis. I even drive them heavily in the winter months, and not so much as a spec of rust on the exhaust. It's probably a resonator of some sort, can probably get away with just straight piping through it. Shouldn't increase the noise of your muffler much, if any at all. Also, I'd check with a different exhaust shop, surely there's something they could fab up.
