Metallic clattering sound
My 30V 2.8Q has started to make a metallic clattering sound when started after sitting idle for a number of hours. It seems to be particularly bad on cold days. I have read quite a few of the posts here regarding tappet noise due to oil draining from the tappets overnight but I think this is something else. The noise only starts approx 5 seconds after starting the engine and the metallic clattering sound lasts for about 20 to 30 seconds. It only seems to it at idle, when I increase the revs at all the noise seems to go away only to return when idling again. Once the noise stops at idle it will sometimes start again when the engine is under load i.e. when pulling away in first gear. It will only do this for the first minute or so of the engine running after a cold start. After a minute or so the engine sounds great. I have tried to locate the noise but is appears to be coming from inside the engine. Can anyone offer any advice on what it could be?
Thanks very much for any advice you guys have

Re: Metallic clattering sound
Oil is Quantum 10w40 (what the main dealer uses)the outside temp has been around 0 deg celcius. The noise is definatelly coming from the engine bay area. Is there an exhaust hanger that far forward? Thanks for the replies

I have the same sound at start up on my 30V.
I hear it more under load when driving away in 1st gear. Sounds like a Diesel knocking.
FWIW - I have been told that it's the lifters and that it is normal.
I use 5W-40 Mobil 1.
