Oil leak help - 1996 2.6 V6 A4 B5
Hello,
I recently bought an A4 V6 and noticed today it's leaking oil. The leak was worse when the car was inclined on ramps. As I'm new to this car I was hoping for a bit of guidance as to the likely culprit.
It's dribbling down the front corner of the sump close to the oil filter, but it's originating from above the sump. I've read that there's a gasket and o-ring associated with the oil filter cooler that can go, but I'm not familiar enough with the car to be able to diagnose it.
Hopefully the following pictures will help.
Thanks.

Oil cooler-to-oil filter housing has failed. Quite common on the older VAG models.
It's not a big job to replace. While you're in there replacing it, I would replace the actual cooler itself, using a new nut to button it all up.

The equivalent of part 5? That's what seems most likely to me. The joint between the oil cooler and oil filter housing (if that's what part 24 is called?) is nice and clean, so I'm confident the o-ring is fine.
I don't need the car on the road for another two months so it may be worth dropping the oil and take it apart until I find the obvious cause, instead of ordering parts ahead of time.
The problem I'm finding is that there are so many variants of the A4 I'm struggling to pinpoint information specific to this engine. As of yet I'm unaware of what parts are common across the board and what terminology is used for certain parts when researching the issue.

Stripped it all down. The oil cooler o-ring is fine, ever so slightly cracked but not the source of the leak. I'll replace it on reassembly though. Fairly certain it's the oil pressure switch. Going to replace that and hopefully it'll sort it.

Sorted the problem.
The ABC engine doesn't have a separate oil filter housing. The oil filter goes onto the oil cooler which goes on to the block.
The oil cooler o-ring seemed fine but I replaced it anyway for the sake of a couple of quid. The leak was from a failed oil pressure switch. Oil was leaking where the spade connector met the plastic housing.
All back together and no more leaking
