Default power locks don't work

Hello everyone,
My power locks on my 97 b5 were working perfectly one night, and then the next morning, it stopped working. The key will lock only the door/trunk that the key is inserted into, beep(as if it locks normally) but doesn't lock the other doors. At the same time, the driver lock switch stopped working. The powerlock fuse is intact. Does anybody have any past similar experience? I suspect that the door lock module is faulty, but I would like to be sure...
Thanks.

Can you hear the air pump run when you try to lock or unlock, from either door or the trunk?

Expensive part unfortunately and fairly high failure rate.

In the trunk, by the spare wheel I think.

I think that might be normal, my 96 was like that for the entire time I had it (11 years). Several others have remarked on it. Takes a while to develop vacuum (3-5 seconds) ? I think the original pump is undersized for the application.

The keyless entry / central locking was redesigned twice between 96 and 99. Lot's of incompatibilities, so leave it alone if it ain't broke.

Slow locks or locks that dont't move when the pump runs could be air leaks at the air couplings or actuators. If you could borrow a pump from a fast-locking '96, this would isolate whether it's pump or a leak somewhere else. If you suspect a leak, you could substitute an aquarium pump for the Audi unit, and continuoulsly keep the system pressurized while listening (in a really quiet place) for the leak.
