Default A4 headlights halogen or xenon?

I need to replace my headlight housing. From my research the xenon and halogen assemblies look pretty much the same on the outside. My bulbs are xenon but I am not sure which housing to buy? Any help is appreciated.

Audi lists two part numbers for the housings, but I think they include the bulbs, which could account for the difference in cost. I own 2 B6's, one of each type, and I have changed the bulbs in each and they appeared identical, although I wasn't specifically looking for differences. Maybe the dispersal pattern is different.

Audi list on these guys is $717, discounted is $500+. Try Tom's imported auto parts in CT for out of a wreck. They could probably tell you if the housings are different.

I have called around to alot of places. I'm from Canada so I have called pretty much everywhere in western canada. And no one can really tell me. Apparently my vin makes a difference because of the production time. But other than that I don't know. You say you have both types of b6. I understand that on the xenon housing there is a module or ballast attached to the housing and the halogens are basically a normal housing. But in my case I have xenon bulbs going into the projector housing. Could I not just buy the halogen projector housing and it should work. I'm not really worried about beam patterns if they are different.

Why not just read the part# off of the housing you want to replace?

OK. I looked up the part number and it tells me. Twin halogen headlight fitted with gas discharge bulb. Does this mean I can just use a halogen housing?

You should buy the same part# as the light you are replacing. That description is confusing as a "gas discharge bulb" is xenon.

OK when I look up bulb types for the my headlight it tells h7 halogen and d1s for xenon. I pulled out the bulbs on mine and it says d2s. So I looked up the different bulbs and d1s will definately not fit. And as for the h7 the connectors are different than from the d2s but does fit in the socket. What is going on here?

No idea. You have me totally confused. H7 is halogen and D2s is xenon. They are not interchangeable.

But the bottom line is if you buy a new headlight assembly make sure the part# is the same as the one you are replacing. Then you will have no issues.
