Default CEL came on just now , could it be ....

**UPDATE**

Forum searching has yielded many answers....

Had a good look around the engine today, found that a L-Shaped Hose by the intake manifold has a huge crack in it ...

I havent had a chance to VAG for the code yet, hopefully tonight.

Should i take the plunge, and replace the hose myself, seems easy enough. Is there anything I need to look out for?

Thanks

Searched the forums first... for a 2002 1.8T Non Quattro CVT

CEL light came on today, actually just the light without a thunderbolt through it ...

Dont think its a coilpack, engine runs great, idles at 900, smooth acceleration

Not the fuel cap, filled up gas twice and clicked the cap a bunch of times. Was thinking fuel vapor. At the 100,000kms service, I had the fuel sender and pump replaced caus my analog gauge was off.

Could it be the electrical gremlim?
Engine Speed Sensor?
Leak?

Suggestions?

Thanks

Emissions related most likely. You need to get the code read. Any OBD-II reader can do the job.

Default Easy change. Get the hose at the dealer for $20, replace clamps with screw type

for the future when it cracks again after another 40k miles. I already have had mine replaced, and I have a spare in my garage because my new one (already has 25k miles on it) is starting to get a little soft near the corner.

Default ** UPDATE **

So I used a generic OBDII reader to scan the code, got back
P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1)

Dropped by my dealership and picked up the L hose and clamps for 26 bucks, will tackle it tomorrow morning

Replace hose, clear CEL and hope the light doesnt come on again

Code makes sense for that failure.

Default ** UPDATE **

Hose replaced, the old one was completely worn out at the bottom, huge gash. Must have just given away.

Anyways, cleared the CEL, restarted car, light went out as normal, drove around, no loss in performance.

Looks like I'm calling the dealership to cancel my appointment!

Thanks again for the help, this forum is great!
