Default xenon headlights

Anyone having issues with their xenon headlamps, or have upgraded to something else? Mine are starting to flicker, not all the time but randomly about once a week and it could be the drivers side or passenger side, just random. They are original lights, 2002 A4. Beginning to trouble shoot about options and what I need to do. Thanks for the help.

I am having the same issue as you on my 2002 A4 and some times they dip. I wish some one could chime in on this.

Sounds like it's time to replace the bulbs. I've always used OEM style bulbs (D1S) so I can't speak to upgrading.

Could be bulbs or ballasts. DO a search - there's a Chrysler ballast that is the sane as the Audi one but much cheaper to purchase.

I just changed my bulbs, which were very dim and sometimes one would shut off. $62 each at autohausaz.com. The old bulbs came out with a white film inside the small arc area, instead of being clear. While the headlights were out, I used industrial grade isopropyl alcohol to swish the inside of the lens and reflectors, and also sanded/polished the front surfaces. The lights are now fully bright and look brand new.

My Valeo ballast kept going on me so I just ditched them for a pair of DDM Tuning 55W HID kits and they work great. Haven't had a problem for the last couple of years since. Its a very easy switch, but takes a little time since the aftermarket ballasts are a bit thicker, but much brighter than the OEM 35W output.

Is it difficult to change the bulbs on these vehicles?

Thanks!
