what in the world is this smaller air filter in the main air filter compartment that is not the main air filter

and then where can i find a new one?

can i wash the current one?

I dont think its a factory fitted part. If it was there would be an Audi part number on it.

some additional info:

i bought the car with a cone filter attached to the end of the main air tube that is pictured.

i took the main cone filter off for this picture obviously

but if that is also aftermarket, then what is it for? is it some sort of cold air intake filter?

also what was supposed to be there from the factory?

OK, so where does that pipe go to?
I did a search on the installation instructions, it says put the small filter on this hose, but where does that go? ( I don't have the V8, just curious as to what requires a separate breather).
