Default 2011 A4 with low mileage

Hi

I have a 2011 A4 with only 27k miles on it. We recently got a Q7 and we are going to drive the A4 even less now, maybe 1-2k miles a year, mostly used by very short trip inside the town. I'm a little worried about the reliability of this car after 6 years, even I'm using it less, I worry it will break a lot and cost me a lot to repair.

Should I sell it and get something newer? Will a 2011 A4 with 27k miles start to age and break even if I have very little mileage on it?

How long are you planning on keeping it? Rubber seals tend to become brittle and crack after 8-10 years regardless of mileage.

We have a similar situation, a 2010 A4 with 41,000 miles which had been used by our son in school. But he has lived in NYC for a few years, and didn't take it with him. My wife and I manage to put about two thousand miles a year on it, and it's such a nice car that I hate to get rid of it. In fact, my wife normally drives our cayenne, which is similar to your Q7, and she likes the change of pace from time to time. The A4 is much better on back roads than an SUV, and it's great around town, too.

The A4 has been on this low mileage routine for over four years, and I don't think it has suffered at all. I do change the oil every year.

Keep the rodents out of it, and change fluids at timing intervals rather than mileage. Might end up being a little overkill, but changing your oil every few years would be a bad idea. Which I doubt you do. If the car is inside, gets good service, and doesn't have old gasoline run through it constantly, it should age very well.

You may desire new electronics and features, but I don't think you'll get a better driver with a new model. I've owned my avant p+ with the sports package for a month or so and I'm over the honeymoon, but it is the best driving car I've owned. I live in the mountains and drive windy roads with 15 mph curves at 35 or so, the speed limit. I love breaking free of the pack of commuters at the few stop lights that punctuate the state highway on my commute. Everyone's drinking coffee, texting, eating, putting on makeup, etc and I like getting the heck out of their way. I've averaged 25 mpg over last 5 tanks.

At any rate, if you like it, keep it. You might test out something at the dealer to compare, perhaps you don't know what you're missing. Or likewise what you're not missing.
