2013 A4 Japanese radio conversion
Hello Guys
I have an imported 2013 A4 from Japan. I live in Trinidad and Tobago and the guys at the firm are not able to help me in any way to have the radio bandwidth changed to my country ( same as USA).
I have done some reading online about this but I am getting conflicting information on how to do the conversion. Some places say that a firmware upgrade changes the bandwidth and some places mention that it wont change with a firmware upgrade and I would need to change the "K - box" which is the radio module, located in the trunk.
MMI Info
HN+_JP_AU3G_PO271
I believe this is the 3G+, if not mistaken. It does not have a simm card slot though, only 2 SD card slots.
Can anyone give me some insight on how to fix this radio issue. I would like to fix the maps also but thats not my priority as Trinidad is a small island
Thanks

Japanese radio frequency, as you mentioned, differs from North America. Japan's FM Frequency band is 76-Mhz to 95-Mhz compared to North America's 87.5Mhz to 108 Mhz. There are also other differences such as bandwidth that I won't mention to prevent non-technical readers from getting headaches.
As far as my technical knowledge in electronics is concerned, the radio that came with your Japanese market 2013 A4 cannot be adapted for use in your country through a firmware change. There are FM converters available but they do not reliable down-convert FM 87.5-Mhz to 108 Mhz to the Japanese standard. Unfortunately, you'll have to change the radio tuner to one that works for your area.

Thanks for the info plat27265. I got the same feedback from some guys in the UK that do the conversion. But finding a tuner "K box" is proving to be difficult and I am not sure whether or not this is plug and play or if it requires intervention with VCDS and vagcom ect. Any ideas / recommendations anyone?

A replacement radio tuner will most likely require a trip to an Audi dealer to have component protection disabled before you can use it. What is the part number of your current radio tuner?
Here is a link to the radio parts diagram and list for the USA 2013 A4 sedan. There are several part numbers that correspond to different radio models. When you say 'K box' you might be referring to the suffix 'K' at the end of the radio's part number. In the parts list, there is no 'K'. I do not know which one will work for your A4. It has something to do with what kind of sound system is in your vehicle. If you can find out the part number of the existing tuner, all you probably need to do is select one with a similar part number but different suffix from the list in the link above.

Hey I am out of the country right now so when i get back I will check the Part number of the one i got. You are probably right about the suffix attached representing the various types of system. I got that info from another forum while researching.
