Considering a 2009 3.2--a few questions
I've been over on the B5 forum for many years, but the 2001 A6 is starting to have a few issues, needs tires, etc.--it might be time. The problem is that every time I look at something new(er), I'm glad when I get in my car and drive home. Maybe this 2009 A4 3.2 would fix that: https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/...997081181.html
Love the color, and it has the xenons, "upgraded" stereo, and a lot of the little touches that seem to be hit or miss (expensive original options) on German luxury cars. Might not be a sport package but has nice wheels. Don't care about nav, especially 8 years later. So a couple questions:
-- Timing belt on the 3.2, correct? I'm guessing it wasn't done at 79k. Not a big issue--I've done it on the 2.7T.
-- Did the excessive oil consumption only apply to the 2.0T? (And for reference, when was it solved? This issue has scared me off A4s in general.)
-- Other major items to question: power steering hoses, suspension--anything else? (VIN does not show a Takata airbag issue.)
-- What is the "upgraded" stereo in this year? (e.g, my 2001 is a Bose, labeled on the speakers and says "Audi Symphony" on the head). I can't see any label on the door speakers in the pictures, but it's hard to tell for sure.
The alternative would be to hop over the oil-loss years (to 2012?) and pay about 60-70% more for half the miles. I can do that, but what I'd really like is an A5 hatchback (ahem, "sportback"). So might just need something for a few years (instead of a dozen) until those fall down the depreciation curve a bit.
Thanks for you help and wisdom, and letting me tap your forum!

I had a 3.2 for four years. No engine/oil issues. It has timing chain(s). Listen for excessive chain noise at cold start. There were two audio upgrades; Audi Sound System it has external amplifier in the back and a "sub" Next level is "B&O". Easy to tell from the shiny rings around the front door speakers. The sound system (at least the B&O) is a bit different depending on Nav or no Nav. If no Nav ther "radio" can be either Consert or Symphony.
(I now have had a "3.0TFSI" for 3 years. It's in large parts based on the 3.2. I don't add oil between the oil services in that either.)
