You could also try asking in the NY/NJ/CT regional forum.

Any chance they didn't put the plug back in properly and all your oil drained out?

Sorry to hear about that, I hope you can get it resolved. Was the car tuned or have any other modifications?

If you read his posts, he said he did the last oil change himself.

No plug issue. For the last 6 months, I had no issue whatsoever with the car. This really came out of no where. I finally heard back from Audi Care. They are only willing to offer $2500 discount bring the total cost of repair to $9500. No thanks. I'm having the car towed to an independent shop. I'll report back when I get my car back.

It would still be interesting to know if there was any oil in the engine. That would have been a simple thing to do but interesting that neither you are the dealer have checked this.

So I have the car towed to an indy shop because Audi Care won't extend any help beyond $2500. The indy shop took a look at the engine and says that the crankshaft is bent and would need to take the engine to a machine shop to get an estimate on the repair. The shop owner says that it's probably cheaper to just replace it with a used engine.

So now I'm shopping for a used engine and can't decide if I should stay with the same model year. I remember hearing somewhere that later engine model (2012 and 20111) would not have the oil consumption issue, but with 2009 and 2010, there is a chance I end up with a bad engine. Any opinion on this?

Also does an engine from A5 2012 year model would fit in 2009 A4? It seems like it would, but wanted to make sure before I order one.

Don't buy into that thought process - - it's not true.

I think you're going to have to find someone who has done swaps. There are some many minute differences between model years. And the 2011 and newer cars have the 8 spd auto, should that pertain to you.

The last oil change was done about 7 months ago at around 90,000 mile mark. I did the oil change myself with Mobile 1 0w-40. I've been keeping up with regular oil changes before the warning comes up at around 9000 mile interval. There was no warning. It ran fine. The engine light came on for a few minutes before it went dead. Right before this happened, the engine was running rough for probably about 10 minutes. So I turned off the engine and tried to restart again, but it never came back.
This happened to me also. The oil sump/pump failed causing the tensioner to slack, jumping the timing chain causing the exhaust valves to open on the upstroke of the piston. See my post.
