Default Quattro vs front wheel drive performance. Any real difference?

I'm considering a discounted FWD A4 vs the quattro I wanted. I live in SoCal, so I don't need AWD for weather. My main concern is performance. Yes, I know handling will be better in AWD, but what about acceleration? Any difference in the 0-60 times? I know everyone prefers the Audi's with quattro, but what is the real world difference? I'm already coming from a faster car (G37 coupe) and I'm not sure I'm willing to take more of a performance hit. Thanks.

You will see a real world difference, in wet, taking off from stand still. (Plus the balance in cornering in any weather.)

Performance will be better with Quattro. While Quattro has slightly higher drivetrain losses, it makes up for it with traction. FWD has major traction issues during acceleration, because the weight shifts to the rear and the front tires unload, so if you gun it from a stop, you'll get wheel spin even on dry roads.

0-62mph=0.5 seconds, dry.

Audi list 0-60 at 6.2 sec for FWD and 5.7 sec for AWD

yeah, no FWD for me. 5.7 seconds is already a bit slow.

I wouldn't consider 5.7 slow by any measure but there are a lot of other benefits to quarto. I looked up 0-60 on a 2013 G37 coupe and its listed at 5.6 sec. Not a lot faster than the A4.

I wouldn't consider it slow either. The time is competitive with other cars with similar engines.

Audi is conservative in their numbers. If you read reviews (i.e car and drive, motor trend, etc.), most of their test averaged 0/60 in 5.2s for the Quattro.

That's true, but the times were recorded with launches that most people would not want to repeat on their own cars. C&D's 5-60 time of 6.0s is most representative of a typical acceleration scenario.
