Regarding the brakes - At my last service (35k) the dealer told me I needed brakes and tires.
The brakes had 3mm left. The tires were at 8/32. That's roughly 50% of the brakes left and 60% of the tire tread left.
I won't be doing either of them anytime soon.
It goes in for the 45k service on Monday. It will be interesting to see what they say.

I think I could have made it to 70k on my original brake pads. That's pretty typical for me though. The rotors were a different story... Glazed and chatty since 25k. On other cars they pulsed at the end of life. Dealerships have always suggested brake replacement when <5mm. I went with Bosch quietcast and akebono Euro pads as I was not happy with the Audi parts, at all.
good to hear my tdi issues aren't typical. Maybe they've got all the kinks worked out of mine now.
