After googling for more hours than I should, I have come to the conclusion that Active Lane Assist is not supported by the Head-Up display of the A8. What is however puzzling is that all the coding and adaptions for the Head-Up Module are available and accepted when done with VCDS (apart from the first "Personalized Settings - MMI Lane Departure Warning System" as explained above in post #86).

Despite all the hours I've spent on the internet looking for a solution and re-checking all the coding, I have been unable to find an answer to the remaining issue of the flashing ALA icon:
Audi Active Lane Assist - YouTube

Could this because I've not upgraded the Column Stalk Assembly yet, but used divxman’s post #43-method to activate the ALA? I like the system, but I'm not sure if I like it enough to take the risk of ordering the Column Stalk Assembly and in the end, installing it does not resolve the issue.
Interesting. I wonder if this could be a calibration issue. This upgrade is fairly new so I hope you get this figured out or get helpful advice to get there.
Remember... experimental mods sometimes take a lot of money, time and determination. It's just the nature of the hobby. = )
Good luck.

Thanks for your comments. Believe me, I know that to well. I previously messed up by Image Processing unit in my efforts to get Traffic Sign Recognition working (TSR). (Long story - bought the Kufatec adapter which I thought would enable the function, but instead, the Kufatec Adapter messed up the coding of my 8E module, resulting in the ACC becoming inactive. Kufatec was not prepared to make me an adapter which would reverse the coding of their TSR adapter. In the end, I had to buy a new Image Processing module at great expense, simply to get the coding to what it had been.

Afterwards I got the TSR sort of working without the Kufatec adapter. (I say sort of, because I regularly get a "TSR information restricted" warning. I believe the only reason why I got TSR working, was because the South African Nav database does not contain the speed limit data. I gathered that in all cases where people could not get TSR working, the databases of their NAV systems contain the speed limit data)

I was wondering about the coding of the Image Processing Unit. The coding for my module is currently 00C20B070111. VCDS does not show the Long Coding Info for my vehicle, so I had to do the coding of Byte 1, bit 5-6 manually with Mrclopec's assistance.

Looking at your screenshot in respect of the coding of the image processing unit, it shows a drop down list for Byte 1, bit 0 - 4. It appears that the County Code should be selected there. I suppose mine had to be coded correctly (for RoW, Right Hand Drive) since my A8 came with ACC. I was wondering though how I could check if bit 0 - 4 is coded for Right Hand Drive vehicles. (In other words, without the Long Coding info available, how does one determine what the bit selections should be where a drop down list is used?

Also, what are the options in respect of the Drop Down list you have for Byte 1, bit 5 -6. Maybe there is an option for ALA and Traffic Sign recognition? If so, is there a way for us to figure out which bit needs to be set for that option?

Thanks guys for all the info and help so far, managed to retrofit it on my A6 in about an hour - some troubles in unclipping the airbags....first timer with this fitting system - but after that everything smooth. Swapped my slip ring and curiously I have gotten no dtc or needed to recalibrate.

Has anyone successfully coded a US vehicle without swapping the stalk, using the post #43 method?

Oh, last famous words, the Line Assist is not availabe at any speed. No apparent sign of error on cluster or in the Car menu. Have some dtc on VCDS, will report later. Anybody else had this problem after retrofitting>

Below are the faults on my VCDS scan.

The dtc in the cluster is new and for what I googled it might be related to the service performed on the car last month.

I could have caused the dtc in 6D by moving the trunk lid whith the disconnected battery while removing the airbag. I know there were no faults in 8E before so they might be cascading from the one in module 17?

Any idea?

IknowHuhA6, absolutely. Thanks for providing the info for this retrofit!

was caused by wrong numbers in the ESI adaptation channels. The car was serviced on March 24, the new adapted intervals were 30600 and 14500 Km. Changed manually to 30000/15000 and the dtc cleared.

For the trunk lid

It seems the
car did not like me taking the load cover off its guides in order to lift the trunk panel and reach the battery. One of the basic setting procedure moves the lid up and down withouth opening the trunk lid and fixed it (don't remember which one, will edit the post with the specifics later on)

At this point I was left with the dtc in the 8E module that did not want to go away. Repeated a few autoscans/clear dtcs but it was still there. ALA settings available on MMI menu, but no icon showing on cluster.

It occurred to me to recheck the other modules and there it was....Module 44
Byte 2 Bit 0 "Lane Assist installed" was not checked. I am sure I did activate it previously because I doublechecked each recoded module twice (been retrofitting my A6s since 2006 and this is the first time I see the system reverting coding by itself)

Fixed this issue, then went back to 8E and made sure the adaptation channels indicated by divxman were set right: the "Steering assistance active" was not active and took me a couple of attempts to make the module accept as active.

Resistanc obviously futile as the yellow ALA icon pops up on cluster!

Full system rescan, no faults anywhere.

Thank you very much. I learned something new thanks to you, along with rest of the community. Much appreciated. Sorry we didn't have the answers you needed in the beginning but remember we're all pioneers in this thread. I'm hoping we can all continue to share our advancements with those that dream the impossible, by those of us not hindered in braving new challenges. Nothing is really impossible. Just time consuming.
