I agree, that is odd. But as others have said, it's hard to use anyway. I'm stubborn so I fight to get mine in it, but it is a pain in the butt to use.

It's a combination of a small savings (the many lesser Prestige feature differences add up) and upsell marketing. (i.e. $3.50 x 300,000 cars worldwide over time = $1M to VAG's bottom line).

I never use it as a glasses holder as sitting in a case, they won't fit. I would have preferred they just leave out that molded nose piece and make it a drop-down bin for other small stuff. The one use it provides when open is a shade if the sun is hitting in the hole just above the rear view mirror. It almost replaces the small center sunshade I have in my 02 allroad and had in my 01 A6 (another feature gone with the wind).

The area in the overhead mini-console that could accommodate an eyeglass holder is so small, I can't see that it would be useful anyway. I really don.t miss it and usually keep my shades on the passenger seats since I drive 95%+ solo in the car. It is odd given that even the Chevy Cruze I rented a few weeks ago had one (if I am remembering correctly), but this omission overall doesn't diminish the A6 experience for me.
Now, where did I out my reading glasses (I'm at home at the PC).lol

That's not a pain in the butt. It's fine German engineering.

Sunglasses holder not offered at all in the UK on the C7. Remember that my C6 had it but of limited use due to size

In my A6 the sunglasses holder is the cubby on the drivers door. You can fit ski goggles in there.

I use the left (useless) cupholder for sunglasses. I use the sunglass holder by the sunroof for extra pair of reading glasses. The cubby on the door is for bottled water

The sunglass holder is incredibly small on these cars. I have a pair of Oakleys that I have had for years...they don't fit so I end up putting them in driver's door cubby.
