Will the acoustic glass (front driver and passenger side) on the new 2016 work on my 2013? I am going to ask dealer this week but presume he will not know.

On my 2016 it looks noticeably thicker than standard glass. With the window rolled down you can see both panes and the laminate between them.

Do you have the HUD? If so, it's a different glass design than the non-HUD standard glass. It has a special layer sandwiched in to accommodate the HUD display.

It's doubtful either A6 windshield has changed since MY2012 but it's always a good idea to ensure the part ordered is for your VIN to ensure proper fit and model. BTW, Audi has used the "Acoustic" designation on all C7s and presumably most, if not all, modern Audi models.

I do, but I was talking about the side glass. It appears double-paned, not sure if all C7s are that way?

Sorry, I misread your post. Not sure what mine are but what I wrote about using your VIN to ensure you have the right OEM side glass for your car would still apply. If indeed the side glass was thicker on a 2016 A6, there could be a problem with the track and such if trying to fit it on an earlier model year.

Yes, the size of the window track will probably be the determining factor.


Besides that, I can attest there is plenty of room inside the door. I removed my Bose midbass enclosure and installed an 8" midbass speaker in my doors. The rear magnet of the speaker just barely touches the window track. The window opens/closes perfectly fine but I definitely can't use a deeper speaker than what I have.

Several early review/preview articles regarding the 2016 A6 mentioned the use of laminated double pane acoustic glass and the use of fiberglass springs as MY changes/upgrades (the springs coming later in the MY). Both of these seem important to me, yet I see little recognition of these two things on this board. I see more about things like paint selection changes and a black optics package, neither of which (in my view) have as much importance as the glass and spring changes. Just seems curious to me I guess.

There is also more HP in the 3.0 engine, a newer MMI hardware with LTE, etc. All of it has been discussed from what I've seen.

Take a ruler or change with you. My GM and Jeep side glass are four cents thick.
