Considering a 2013 A6 3.0T - please advise
Hey Gang,
I'm a current 2008 Audi A6 3.2 quattro, 135K miles.
I found a 2013 A6 3.0T quattro Premium Plus (cold weather package, safety package) - 60K miles for $26,000.
The extended Gold warranty for 4 years / 50K miles is quoted at $5,000.
Please give me your advise.

Get the car, pass on the warranty. Invest the $5K toward possible future repairs. The odds will be with you.
Get the car checked out by an Audi specialist before you buy. If it's from an Audi dealer ask to drive it for a day and get it checked out elsewhere.
While it's not perfect, do a CarFax report to see if it was ever in an accident.

Thanks for the reply Seven.
I've driven the car and I couldn't find any complains. It's being sold by a local Audi dealership. (non-CPO)
I'm tempted to go with a 3rd party warranty (i believe the Audi offer is as well)...Was quoted $3800 for 6yr / 100K mile warranty from Endurance...digging into the coverage limits, and the other disclaimers is becoming pretty stressful.

Even $3800 will pay for a lot of repairs and maintenance. I'm with snagitseven. Have the car checked out by an independent mechanic that specializes in Audi's. If they come up with nothing then pass on the warranty. Paying extra for CPO I can understand but 3rd party warranties have always been a waste of money for me.

slightly high miles IMHO. I would stay under 50k and then get the platinum warranty which should not run over $3000 (I think the gold for 5k is DEF too much)
I am one of those people who will ALWAYS opt for the warranty. That's even when I can do most of the repairs and maint myself......the complex electronics etc. in the newer cars just scares me.....ie the high pressure fuel pump on my Porsche is $2900 parts and labor at the stealership if no warranty.....I paid $3200 for my ext warranty till 6/2019 (5/60k since I put very little miles on it)....So anything else on the on the Porsche is pretty much a gain.
so far only 2 cars that I didn't get my moneys worth for buying CPO or ext warranty (the VW Golf because I only kept the car till 38k miles which I got the warranty refunded for the remaining $ and the Acura RDX....I sold that at 60k miles and well.... is a Honda...so is pretty much trouble free)

The counterpoint is that I'm one of those who rarely gets the warranty and so far I can say that it's been money well-saved. Even with an extensive Audi ownership catalog, I've yet to have any major failures and have done a LOT of preventative maintenance, above and beyond Audi factory scheduled items.
Anecdotally, the only car I bought a factory warranty for was a Honda

I keep track of all my auto expenses and just checked my wife's 15 year old allroad. Total repair expenses that would have been covered under a warranty (not including maintenance, tires, brakes, timing belt and such) was $1400 total in repairs over the 15 years. Expenses for the first three years after the factory warranty ran out was $450. Three Audis before my current A6 and I've never had an extended warranty and I am way ahead.
Extended Warranties are like gambling Las Vegas. A few will come away winners but most will be left with a bus ticket home. Warranty companies, like casinos, are in business to make money, not to pay out claims.

Thanks for the replies. I picked it up yesterday...pretty happy about it.
Random observations so far. (mostly vs. my 08 A6)
Negative
- Windows roll down much slower
- Mirrors don't adjust down when reversing
- The climate manual control dial method isn't great vs. the old electronic
Positive
- Extremely quiet
- Smooth drivetrain
- 28 mpg over 250 miles so far
