Diminished value
Since 2005 I have leased four new Audi’s from the same dealer: 2006 A4 2.0, 2008 A4 2.0, 2010 A6 3.0 and the current 2013 A6 2.0. The first three I turned in early to get a new car and was planning to do the same with the 2013 A6. When I was arranging the lease for the current car the dealer suggested I limit the lease to 10K miles a year since in all likelihood I would be turning the car in before it hit 30K miles. He added that he couldn’t wait to get his hands on the car in a few years since the history they had with me suggested I return cars in near new condition, with low miles and they sell quickly.
A few months after getting the ’13 A6 I was rear ended while stopped at a red light. Summer of 2014 a deer bolted out from behind trees on a highway median into the left side of the car causing over $23K in damage. I had both repairs done through the selling dealer at an Audi certified repair facility.
Last week I went to two Audi dealers to see about turning the ’13 A6 in early on a 2016 A6. Both said that due to the accidents (reported by me and confirmed by Carfax) they did not want the car since they could not sell it. One guy said I was lucky to be leasing since I just make the 4 remaining payments and walk away. He said that if I had bought the vehicle I would be facing a big ($8,000 to $10,000) diminished value hit if I tried to sell it privately or trade it (assuming any Audi dealer would want it – damaged goods).
Something to be said for leasing I guess. The good news is that the car looks great (wonderful repairs), runs great, I can easily wait a few more months to get a new one and the current monthly lease payment is likely to be less than a new 2016 A6 would be. Another good thing: neither accident was my fault or chargeable in terms of premiums.
I guess I will just wait until the Winter of Audi event.

I beleive the 2017's will not be out until well into 2016. My lease is up in early December 2015. i will likely just turn it in and either get another Audi A6 or a different brand completely - depends on what I see then and how I feel about things. Many cars out there are fine for my needs.

Here you go Bob. Buy 4 Toyota Yaris instead of one A6 and as soon as one breaks, roll out another. $14k ea. Nice, basic transportation and disposable.

I don't really like blue - does it come in something close to Quartz Gray?
I suspect I will get an A6, but I'm intrigued with a new Subaru Crosstek and a 2-4 year old convertible of some sort (Audi, BMW) as a second/summer car now that I have the place to park two cars. The dilemma is I have only only one garage spot, so which one would have to stay outside? That may lead me back to the one car situation in which a new Audi will likely win out. I could get the 4 Yaris's and give them away on Halloween instead of candy I guess.
