DIY Brake Change??
Hello all,
It's about time for my vehicle to have its brake pads swapped out and before I dove right into it I wanted to get some insight. I was wondering if anyone had a step by step DIY layout I could follow or do some research on. If you know of any other forums that have this information for the A6 C7 that would be great. I know these vehicles are a little different than the American made cars so I wanted to make sure I do it right the first time.
Thank you

For the rear, you need a VAG-COM cable to release the electro-mechanical parking brake.
Some have done it without the VAG-COM. I don't think it would be an issue doing it this method, but do it at your own risk.
Even BMW sites show similar method without a cable to retract the electro-mechanical parking brake (around 3:30 mark).

I believe Carista will retract the rear calipers and it's cheap. Much better than having to buy very expensive parts if you screw up a rear caliper or parking brake actuator. Or just buy VCDS. It's really worth the money.

Just wanted to let you guys know that Carista has just launched its new version (3.0) which includes support for releasing the EPB on an A6 C7 for changing the brake pads. The cost is $9.99 for a 1-week Pro pass in the app, and of course, you have to have an OBD adapter, which costs anywhere between $10 and $40, depending on which one you choose. We recommend the official Carista adapter, of course: Carista ? OBD2 vehicle diagnostics, customizations, coding & tools
The real benefit in Carista is how simple it is to use:
