Default Fuel Filler Lid Actuator Has Stopped Working!

Not sure if it is the cold weather or what, but this is the second time that the fuel filler lid would not open. The first time, I got it to open by yanking on the emergency release cord, from inside the trunk, behind the right side storage cubby, by the fuses.

Then it wont open again last night and no amount of yanking on the emergency release did the trick, to the point that the emergency release cord broke. I was however, able to take a golf tee and wedge it between the quarter panel and the fuel filler lid and gently pull it open, without a single scratch on either surface. I did some research and for those of you that might be having a similar issue, here is the part# that I will be ordering.

Part #: 4L0862153C REVISED - New Part #: 4L0862153D. Apparently Audi calls it the "throttle control element"!! go figure!! The cheapest I could find was $48, brand new!

Wouldn't this be covered under warranty? I think I have heard other people complain about this problem so there might even been a TSB out for it.

Can you repair it and make it better?

Replacing with OEM parts might leave you stranded if it happens again.

When mine did the same thing, the dealer said that the solenoid (or whatever it is) is fairly sensitive to adjustment. They said just bring it in and they'd adjust it. Sounded like a moderately common thing they did.

Maybe what James said below is the key. I will try to repair it once I have it in hand to see if there are any adjustments that can be made on the solenoid.
