HVAC air return area
Does anyone know where the intake is for the HVAC when it's set to recirculate? I am trying to spray some HVAC treatment to get rid of the moldy smell but not sure where the air return is located. Thanks.

It would have to be in the passenger side footwell behind the glove box. That's the area where the outside air enters and most manufacturers use a servo/pneumatic/vacuum operated door that selects one or the other.
I believe there is a cabin filter down there. All the air should pass through the filter so the door would be upstream. Perhaps you could remove the filter and spray the treatment in that way.

the cabin filter is definitely under and behind the glove box. i just changed mine recently. remove the thumb screws and pull the leather flap back and its right there. its a tight fit. when i pulled mine out while the car was running, i could fell warm air coming thru it. I'm guessing thats the area your looking for.

Yup, the air filter is down under there.
However, I removed the air filter and have the air circulate at full blast, all of the air is coming out from the filter area. What that means is that if I spray anything into the air filter box, it will get blasted out.
I looked through the diagrams on my ElsaWin and it seems like it's inside the glove box somewhere that it's sucking the air from for the circulation mode. With the fresh air mode, it's sucking air near the firewall in the engine bay.
Looks like it will be hard to spray anything for the HVAC treatment.

Aquarian.. Yeah no way you could spray anything where the interior cabin filter goes. I had some strong air blowing back at me when I changed the cabin filter.
Maybe check this out... This guy has a YouTube video, he was changing out the exterior cabin filter. I didn't know about this. I will investigate later to see if it's on my a6. It's worth a look, that might be the intake for the cabin that you need Aquarian.

I don't have that filter on my 2012 A7. I was in that area with a shop vac and would have seen it. It looks like a plastic mesh was removed and a filter put in it's place.
I found a eBay listing with a part number - 4H1 819 429 A
I also found this one, which I bought, for $20 - Car AC Cabin Air Filter for Audi 2012 A6L C7 A8L A7 S7 S6 External Air AC Filter | eBay

Yeah Keep us posted. Wasn't aware of that filter either.
At 0:40 mark of the video you can actually see the cabin air filter.
Also, it looks like the guy in the video used a different filter holder instead of the one that he took out. Do we need to buy that too?
