Premium gas less than $3
#24
A week ago is a long time ago the way the prices have been dropping. I check GasBuddy.com to see who's got the lowest price in my area and go to the cheapest one of the reliable brands if I am going that way, otherwise I use my local guy who is usually $.06 higher per gallon than the cheapest.

Most gasoline in America has up to 10% ethanol blended in, but I was at a station today that was selling pure gasoline (87 octane) for $2.89 while the E10 87 octane was $2.39. The pure gasoline should get you better mileage but probably not 20% better to make up for the price difference. (Oh, I paid $2.79 for 93 octane premium).
As to whether higher octane gets you better mileage, well I have run a few tankfuls of 89 octane on 550 mile highway runs and could not measure any difference, as in within +/- 1 mpg. Note that on the highway, you are not putting much load on the engine, so it doesn't really need the knock resistance of 91 or 93 octane. However, in city driving where you put more load on the engine like if you accelerate hard from a standstill, I have gotten some slight engine knocking even on 93 octane. If this happens often enough, the ECU will pull back ignition timing and the engine will not operate as efficiently, and hence your gas mileage will suffer.
