The cable coLor
Is there a difference? I picked up a gray cable from the German Audi dealership and it seems to work just find for the ipod connection. Is there something that I am missing not having the red cable?

I found a little bit of info about cables in the MMI owner's manual.
EDIT: What software version do you have? What kind of iPods are you trying? Mine is an ipod Touch and works flawlessly.

Yes, Same exact message with Blue cable. I tried a shuffle, nano, classic, and touch.

Swapped Blue Cable for Red at Dealer
All, Thanks for the great info on the Red Cable. I had been reading through all of the threads on the 2012 A6 before I picked up the car on Feb. 4th.
As I was going through all the buyers info with the sales rep, I noticed the blue cable in the bag. And thanks to this forum I asked the dealer to switch to the Red cable, which they did without a problem. In fact they said the system cost was the same to them, but the cost to the customer was much higher for the Red cable.
So if you are waiting for your A6. Ask your sales person to trade out for the Red cable!
