so where does the OEM grill placed? lower or upper bumper?

The OEM intercooler grill is placed directly on the intercooler as shown in post #10 and in this picture. The intercooler is below the bumper.

Thanks! just ordered. the bumper must coming off for install or can I wiggle my way in there?

You should be able to install it from the top. Take a look at my DIY.

I noticed that my car had a bunch of junk between the air conditioner condenser and the radiator. Check yours while you have it apart.

Just got a 2013 A7 Prestige and will be going to the farm tomorrow - so I bought a 40 x 13" "Grille Mesh" on Amazon (4mm 8mm rhombus, holes are way too small), cut it down to 31 inches in length, and fit it snug behind the grill. Installed it from the top, and used some thin wire to tie it against the grille. Should work for this trip, when I have a long weekend I'll do a proper job, and use a wider mesh that lets more air in. Thanks for this thread, you may have saved my intercooler.
