Default 2000 2.7T Quattro Transmission

I bought it new, has a little over 83k miles. Dealership told me not to service the transmission; synthetic oil, sealed for life. Is this tranny too old to service without expecting catastrotic failure? Who other than Audi can service it? Any history of how long an Audi Quattro tranny can go without service?

Search around the forums. They are very serviceable. Recommended services are every 35k according to ZF (Manufacturer of the tranny) if it's an automatic.

Hmmmm I thought it was 50-60k miles. I had my c5 for over 150k miles and only did the servicing 3 times.

Fwiw, the process is very straight forward and super well documented. A bunch of folks sell full kits (I.e. Blauparts)

I typically service it every 50-75K. I have a 2004 2.7T A6 with 280,000 on it and no transmission problems have ever been experienced. My mom has a 2001 2.7T A6 with 180,000 on it and no transmission issues. My girlfriend has a 2001 A4 1.8T with 165,000 and no transmission issues. All got their first service at 100,000 miles and then get serviced every 50-75K after that. They got their first service at 100,000 miles because that is when I bought my car and my gf's car, and I didn't maintain my mom's car until then.

I use Amsoil ATF and when I drop the pan at 50,000 it looks almost brand new and there is never any metal in the pan. At 75,000 it doesn't look so new.

ZF seems to have a few different recommendations but most fall in the 50k to 80K range and/or 8 years.

I am in Maryland, Baltimore/Annapolis/ Wash DC. Can AAMCO be trusted to service the trans? Any recommendations locally?

I bet Audi is giving him the old "don't service it" fib.

I had my local Audi dealer do my first Tiptronic trans oil and filter change, but I had to request it, and it cost about $600 with Audi ATF, filter, and pan gasket. That was at 40,000 miles in 2006.

I did it myself at 80,000 following the Bentley manual and a DIY tutorial. I had a very slight bronze-colored shimmer in the pan and the ATF was very dirty--no shavings mind you. It shifted much better and no thunk/thump while coasting from 50mph to 25mph--that was my my issue. I believe it is called "torque converter falling out of lockout."

I did it again this month at 100,000 miles as I was getting a very slight thump/thunk while coasting (downshifting) once in a while (again). The filter was pretty clean, but I did it all again (Meyle filter, Pentosin ATF, and pan gasket)--just to be sure.
