Once my new TCM was plugged in, I was able to connect to the TCM using my E-Bay Chinese cable and VCDS Lite. No errors of any kind after a week of driving. Still can not figure out what caused the TCM to go all of sudden like that.

Or microscopic cracks. Or failed components. Old solder or suppliers that cheated on the spec components or bad wave soldering machine out of spec for awhile can generate boards that pass QC but fail 10 years down the road.
Not to mention heating/cooling cycles in the automotive environment that can damage electronic boards.
