Default Battery Drain - Testing of

Hi all,

I have an Audi with good battery (tested twice by two different sources).

But, it draws down pretty quickly (several days) if the car sits without charging.

I just tested to see if there is a draw with all equipment off and this is what I am seeing:

When I connect the meter, it jumps from 2.x to 6.x amps and then settles in the .2-ish amps being drawn.

Has anyone seen this? The meter jumping up to 6-ish amps being drawn when first connecting and then within 10 seconds, the meter steadies at less than one amp being drawn.

Thanks,

A .2 amp draw is way too high it should be at the most 50 milliamps or less, check out this thread https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-...issue-2898835/ I can't change batter to battery because it's in the title of the thread "not mine"

yeah 200ma is huge , there is a really good you tube on how to walk through the basics of troubleshooting this.

Thanks for the input. It was my mistake by not moving the decimal enough.

The draw, after things settle down (~30 seconds), stays steady at 0.05 amp which is 50mA.

The battery still seems to die quickly when sitting. I've had it tested twice...once at AutoZone and once at another Battery store. In both instances, the battery checks out "good."

I just can't figure this out!

Ok, now what voltage do you measure after a drive then at a shut down, are you sure the alternator is fully charging?

yeah the first 30 seconds can be normal as the interior lights go out , alaram sets etc. I would think50ma is still kinda high but a good charged battery should handle this no problem. I concur with checking charging voltage as it sounds like something isn't quiteright .
The other thing you migtt want to do is try a memory meter with delta checking so you can see if the drain current goes up at some point while it is sitting .

My car occasionally would set of the alarm and drain the battery .

memory meter with delta checking
Is there a particular name for a meter with this capability? I just searched for those terms and I saw a bunch of Delta Air Line stuff! ha

Default Buy your own battery load tester.

Charge the battery for 24 hours disconnected from the car. Then load test it yourself.
