Default Central Locking Issue?

Hey guys, I'm having a lock issue that I cant seem to diagnose.

The other day I noticed that my dome light wouldn't turn off even though all the doors were closed, after going crazy trying to figure it out I decided to just leave it.

As I was driving I pressed the lock button on the driver door and it locked all the doors, then they all unlocked at the same time and the dome light went on and wouldn't go off. After it does that its just dead, the button doesn't do anything when I press it after that (until i turn the engine off then back on then it does the same thing, explained below).

Interestingly enough, it only happens when the engine is on. If I turn the engine off and try it the buttons work flawlessly and to add the key FOBs work perfectly, no issues with either of them. I also have no CEL and am not pulling any codes.

Really cant figure this out, is it the driver door module? A central locking module issue? Software issue? Any input is greatly appreciated.

It's caused by the Door Lock Actuator. The part number is 4B1837015H. You can either fix the microswitch (if you are a masochist), or you can replace the actuator (if you are a sadist). Either way, you will get satisfaction.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply, really helpful. I think I'm gonna go sadist on this one and replace the actuator haha.

Probably order this one NEW Driver Door Front Left Door Lock Latch Actuator FOR Audi A4 A6 C5 8E Quatrro | eBay . Hopefully theres a guide on how to do so here. Thanks again though!

that's the ticket. Once you have the door card and window regulator out, you might find it difficult to wiggle the old mechanism out. I found it easier to remove the outside handle to get more room. The handle is held to the door by a sliding steel piece that you move to the side. Once the handle is out the mechanism is a cinch.

Also, mark where the window regulator sits on the frame and keep track of where the shims go. If you don't, you might be spending more time readjusting the window to stop wind noise. BTDT

be aware it may not have the security piece in it and not be able to arm the alarm.

I have bought two of these and have had the same issue .. VCDS indicated the issue was this lock actuator.
I really didn't care anyway but thought you might want to be aware if your alarm wont arm after.

I agree, it sounds like door lock module going screwy. They tend to have different ways of failing. Mine would unlock all the doors & put all the windows down, with the engine off & key fob no-where nearby. Fotunately it didn't start the car & drive it away too! When I change the module it fixed that problem. Be sure you get the correct number & last letter on the white sticker from that ebay link.

Basically when I press the interior lock/unlock button it locks then unlocks all the doors and the dome light stays on and it stops working. Thats it. Actuator replaced and its still an issue, maybe its the switch?
