Should there be a chime when you get out with the headlights left on? (yes, it goes to parking lights, but still pulls current)

Yes, there should be a chime when you open the door and the headlight switch is in one of the active positions.

The car has not been modded at all.
I would expect all factory feature to be on.

Should chime if you open your driver door regardless of whether or not the car is running. Mine chimes even if just the parking lights are on and the door opens. Perhaps your car does not know you are opening your door...does your central cluster show the door open when you open the door and you are in gear? Do your dome lights come on when you open your door? If yes, then there is something up with the wiring harness for the headlight. IIRC, there was a recall sometime ago regarding a sharp edge on the dashboard frame that required some black felt tape to be placed on the frame so it would not fray the wires. Some C5s caught fire. Might want to check that regardless of the light chime issue.

Next time I drive, I will check the chime with the key in and door open.

I know the door open shows up on the dash.

So far it has not been a problem ,as even when the lights were left on all day at work, the car still started.

Sounds like one of the two micro switch's in the door latch unit is acting up, does the dash odometer and footwell light up when you open the door?
