The new (to me) S6 (long)
Well I made it home (CA) from CT where I picked up the car. In one piece and without a ticket.. Let me say that it was a good experience and met a good group of Audi guys in the Hartford area.
This car is a teutonic missle when it comes to burning up the miles. Comfortable, deceptively fast sleeper. The comfort seats do help on the longer drives though. Coming from a UrS6 with sport seats, longer drives are less painful.
Small issues: one of the fogs is out - what bulbs are good here? OEM? Philips? Yes I've searched.
Also, on my way back home I stopped by the TireRack in South Bend IN to pick up some all seasons to replace the Conti Sports as I was worried about snow and ice. Awesome. They mount and Roadforce the tires for far less than a local tire dealer. They did find however that 2 of the OEM wheels are slightly radially bent. i.e. pothole hit. Balance out fine though. When I replaced the tires, the vibration went away. I put on a set of Kumho ASX which I had on my UrS6 and really liked. No traction issues the entire trip. The bent wheel thing kind of bums me out though.
The timing belt does make noise. It will take some time to get used to the "usual, expected noises" of this car. The brakes.... I had 993tt brakes on my UrS and I have to say I prefer those. The HP2's work fine but much less (IMHO) modulation. More of a "on or off" sort of brake. It also feels like I'll have to replace the front rotors (pulsation at speed) Recommendations? OEM or slotted? Drilled?
The motor... sweet. To be honest I miss the tunablility (sp) of the AAN but this is a good motor. Torque is sooner, more linear. The transmission seems to hunt a bit. Depends on what I'm driving though.
Overall a very nice car and a no regrets purchase so far. I'll post more pics once I get a chance to upload .

Welcomne. As to the rotors, you'll find lots of varying opinions out there about slotted vs.
drilled (or even slotted AND drilled), but most agree that you should stay away from the OEM rotors - too many instances of warped OEM rotors, and there are plenty of good non-OEM replacements.
Do a quick search and you'll find tons of reading - so give yourself plenty of time!
