Bottom line is you are driving a mid-high end German vehicle , you cant expect to drive it and not spend money on it, I get you are at a juncture but It is unreasonable to drive an Audi of this generation and not expect to put money into fixing it . Especially if you are beyond your DIY capabilities.
Either:
1. spend the money to have it diagnosed / fixed properly
2. Drive it till it drops
3. Try to sell it before the next strange noise.
its that simple to me.
