Default Serpentine belt tensioner

I'm just about finished with my engine rebuild. I put my serpentine belt tensioner on and when I spun the pulley, it sounded kind of loud. I would expect it to be completely quite. Not sure if it's supposed to be completley quite or not? I did hit it with some KANO oil and it helped a little, but it still is audible. Is this right or not?

Thanks

should be smooth spinning. I'd put a new one on. Standard part included in kits.

^^^ +1.

No noise. Did you spin it with hand to see if it is grinding/rough? Any case, replace.

Haven't seen a serpentine belt "kit". Not saying they don't exist. Idler pulley comes in timing belt kits though. Definitely change it now. If a week from now it freezes up the damage that a thrashing belt can cause will be $$$$$$$$$.

he is talking about serpentine belt , not timing belt.

yes id put a new tensioner on its just a huge pain in the *** if it all comes apart as you will have no ac, power steering, alternator . Even jus the annoying squeak would make me do it .

Well, they do come with some timing belt kits....came with mine, but I had to have it replaced again in a cross country trip when it started making a grinding noise. Could be that the kit version isn't up to Audi quality. Replacement was done at an Audi dealer and it's still making no noise 80K miles later.
