Stripped camshaft lead to bent valves 2.8
So I'm helping my friend with a 2001 A6 2.8 Had a serious coolant leak put it up on the lift found timing belt had worn through the thermostat cover and realized that was because the water pump bearing was shot as well as the timing belt idler roller was completely shot. Decided the best course of action would be to do complete timing belt kit and new thermostat cover. Did the job fired it up and it wasn't running right at all, shut it down tore it all apart again and realized somehow we messed up when aligning/tightening the driver's side camshaft pulley washer. Used torque wrench to spec but it must not have been correctly on the flats and messed up the end of the camshaft. Tried our best to clean it up and get the washer on correctly and set the timing. It started up and ran better but was obviously still missing cylinder 6 per the VAG, the affected camshaft pulley has a slight wobble to it but probably be drivable, the car is a beater just trying to get another year or so out of it. So now the problem is the bad cylinder, pulled the plug and it is wet, ran a leakdown test and it is obviously leaking. Put rubber gloves over exhaust pipes while running the leakdown test and got nothing. Put glove over intake and it filled up. Assuming we bent at least one intake valve. What should our next step be? Pull the head? Will it be easier to get a used head from a junkyard and just put that on with new head and exhaust gaskets? Can we just replace the camshaft and bent valves? Never worked on a head before but have a lift in the garage, have triple squares which I think are needed for the head bolts. Is there a write up somewhere for changing the head? Amazing how much damage one stupid mistake can cause...
Thanks in advance,
Tony

In general old Audis are expensive "beater" cars.
Might be worth totaling up the cost to fix plus the value to sell, part, scrap, plus what will go in over the next year, and buy a cheap Honda, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, etc.
