Default 2008 4.2L A6 coolant in oil

So have some major issues going on. Recently have had some timing error codes pop up along with cam adjusters slow to respond. At first I though maybe I had a timing chain guide issue, but now I know it is an oil quality issue.

First let me say, I change the oil at roughly 7500 miles since I've owned it. Mobil full synthetic european formula that meets audi specs. Bought the car at 70k and it has about 110k on it now. I have not had any oil quality issues at any interval. Oil filter always looked normal for an oil change, same with the oil. So this leak only developed about 2k miles ago at the earliest.

Anyways, I discovered that coolant is getting into the engine oil. I had a small coolant leak that I suspect was the over flow tank, but obviously I was wrong.

So here are the couple of questions I have.

1. There is coolant in the oil, but not oil in the coolant. If there is it is an extremly small amount. As I have dumped both fluids today. Coolant looks like it is freshly mixed right out of the bottle. So where would one suspect the leak is? I am leaning towards the oil cooler because the coolant pressure is higher than the oil pressure there? If it was the head gasket, I would assume they both would mix and I would see oil in the coolant.

2. Sludge, obviously sludge has developed causing issues with the cam adjusters. I plan on dropping the oil pan and oil pump to clean what I can get to. Especially the pick up line for the oil pump. How does anyone recommend for cleaning the rest of the engine out after I get this leak fixed? If its the head gasket, I will just pull the engine apart and clean manually. But if it is the oil cooler, how can I flush it out.

I was thinking oil change at 500 miles. Then filter every 500 and oil every 1000 until I am satisfied?

Thanks for the help
