Default [SOLVED] 2008 Audi A6 MMI not working

Hello. I have a problem with MMI 2G that I'm trying to solve for about a month now. It was working fine until it it just turned off (it was raining these days). When I press the volume button (mute), MMI screen comes on and then it says:
"Note: An installed component is not valid. Please contact an Audi Workshop"
MMI buttons are not lighting. I checked fuses in dashboard (drivers side) and in trunk multiple times and they are fine..

Car is a sedan.

Optical Bus Diagnostic

Controller Electrical Optical
19-CAN Gateway ERROR ERROR
07-Control Head ERROR ERROR
0E-Media Player 1 ERROR ERROR
77-Telephone ERROR ERROR
47-Sound System ERROR ERROR
56-Radio ERROR ERROR

(same results with Standard and 3dB Attenuation)

I was thinking about trying bypassing MOST but i don't know if its even problem in MOST since all these both electrical and optical errors from diagnostic.

Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I think that this cable (clone) does not support Optical Bus Diagnostic so it's giving ERROR to everything..

considering the number of faults you have related to aspects of your MMI and you pointed out that "it was raining these days", have you checked whether your BT module is operational?

You'll need to remove the driver's side seat and it's located under the carpet there...if it's slightly damp, you have clogged drains and there are some great DIYs on this forum. Leverage the SEARCH function on the forum and you will find plenty of info on this topic.

Thanks for reply, how can I check BT module if it's operational? With VCDS I can't since it's not reachable.
I don't have sunroof, could it be clogged drains ? I'll check the carpet tomorrow.

Thanks.

The only way to confirm is for you to use a bypass loop to connect it where the BT module would be and then you'll be able confirm if that is in fact the issue. Your clone VCDS doesn't have all the functionality, so you should go to someone with a legit cable and you'll get more diag data. Is your carpet area under the driver seat slightly damp? The only way to 100% confirm is via the removal of your BT module and leveraging the MOST bypass.

You may not have sunroof drains, but you have plenty of other areas where water can get in:

seals around the door frames
window seals
drain holes in front of the car

Under the driver seat, there is a black plastic square cap. This cap hide all the wire for your seat. Remove it and put your finger down around the connector. Try to go as deep as you can. If you feel water or moisture, your bluethoot module is probably fry. But as raj said the best way to know it, is to get the bypass and use it on every module. There is a lot of hole where water can come into your car... And get yourself a real vcds if you want real result. It going to pay for itself on the long run...

Carpet area under driver seat is dry, I removed the black plastic square cap with wires and I don't feel any water or moisture. However I'm going to order bypass cable and try it with BT module and other modules. Also in trunk, only the right side is removable and there is only Comfort ECU and antenna amp. Since I don't have Nav, I think they permanently attached (glued) the left side of carpet with tuner amp and other modules or where else these modules could be?

Thanks.

Right side (no MOST cables)

Left side (glued carpet)

A little update, it was the Bluetooth Telephone module.. I didn't want to remove pillars because I was afraid of breaking them so I just cut the carpet just enough to open the black box (I know it wasn't the best solution but you can't even see the cut and you have quick access to BT module at least).. Today wasn't even raining and a little bit of water and moisture was around the box!

If anybody is having same problem, module is not right under the seat but rather in front left side (leg area).

Thanks for help!

Great and thanks for closing the loop on this. Glad it was the BT module, which is a relatively easy fix

I’ve been having a similar MMI problem—and I hope that it turns out to be the same BT module. (My problem caused by water in the right footwell, but who knows)

A couple of questions:

- can you reach the BT module without removing the driver seat?
- can I just remove the BT module to fix? Or do I first need to order a “MOST bypass”?
