3.0T nightmare scare
Audi's great engineering gave me a scare yesterday. I went to start my car it cranked over twice and then a clunk noise, engine wouldn't turn over like it was seized. After scratching my head for a while, I removed the spark plugs, the RT bank was filled with coolant in cylinders 1-3. Immediately I thought my head gasket or head cracked. cranked the engine over without plugs and shot the coolant out of the cylinders. Pressurized the system and watched the cylinders fill up. From previously doing a thermostat a while back I remembered the coolers inside the SC, sure enough the right side had began to leak badly. Horrible design IMO, currently waiting for the cooler from Audi.

WTH audi engineers thinking: leaking coolant sucked right into cylinders?
Did they conduct FMEA on this engine?
Can you take some pictures when you are replacing it?

There's the image with the SC off and the cooler itself that's located inside the SC, one on each side. It was leaking along the seam. Once I got it running I traded it in and went back where I belong. ///M Power
