Audi Newbie - 06 a6 Steering Wheel Audio Functions Not Functioning
Hi All,
I've been Googling furiously for an answer to this one (and a few other issues which I'll post separately for the sake of operational prudence), but I having really found a solution. I purchased a 2006 Audi a6 (4.2 L Quattro) a few days ago, and one of the issues is that the steering wheel audio controls are not working. The backlight is functional, wheel telescoping and height set are functional. I don't know about the horn yet, but I live in Atlanta, so I'm sure I'll know soon. Is this a major issue? I read somewhere about needing to teach the radio through VAG-COM, which is somewhat expensive. Are there any other things to check? Is VAG-COM the way to go?
Some background: The broker I bought it from said he took it to Audi, had MMI and Nav updated and had them repair a few other things, like a leaking coolant reservoir.

I was finally able to get a VCDS on the car to read all the codes. Here's everything but the engine, which is having it's own set of issues.
Like I said, I'm new to Audi, and really starting to wonder if I made a mistake buying one. And I hate saying that, because it's beautiful.

Got a feeling the issue is related to: 02244 - Button in Control Head is Stuck
It might be an issue where you need to remove the MMI unit and clean it with isopropyl or it could be something else...you'll need to use the search and do some due diligence, but at least you can start some troubleshooting.

On another note, that's a lot of electrical problems. Some times a new battery will fix those, but since you just got the car, do you think it might be a salvage title that had a water issue?

I believe he means the panel in the center console with the buttons to control the MMI.
On another note, that's a lot of electrical problems. Some times a new battery will fix those, but since you just got the car, do you think it might be a salvage title that had a water issue?

Since I bought it, I did buy a new battery for it, and it was only disconnected for about 15 minutes. From my research, it sounds like I need to disconnect it for 3 hours or more to reset the voltage regulator. I'll do that this weekend and then borrow my buddy's vag-com again.
I verified beforehand and still have the CarFax. It is a standard, clean title and is absolutely not a flood car. It is, however, 10 years old.

Thanks, I'll check that. But it's surprising that would negatively affect the steering wheel. I want to replace the big button/wheel anyhow because the top isn't smooth anymore, so I'll just dig deeper when I do that.

Including the fact that you should clear all codes from each module (individually) and take care of those that come right back after a short Drive.
