Hello,
I have a6 quattro from 2005. Few days ago I noticed that my fuel gauge goes from 1/2 to 0 instantly. Everything is fine when the tank is full until the needle goes to 1/2 mark.

What is the possible cause for this.
I know that Quattro models have two tanks with pump between them, so maybe the pump is not working? Or the fuel meter?

If it is like the C4, there is a part called a fuel sender in the tank with the fuel pump. There is a wire that runs up and down the sender attached to a float which relays the amount of fuel based on the float position. That wire can fail in the way you describe.

My guess is the newer cars have more of an electrical component involved, but the sender is what you might want to start with. If I remember correctly, I think I saw a TSB about the sender having a wiring problem, but that was about fuel reading 0 after a fill up.
