Default OMG, WHAT IS GOING ON!!!!!!!

Ok this morning i went to start my car and it would not turn over, radio worked but turn key and nothing happened. I went through all the fuses in the trunk by the jack and theones near the glove department. All fuses were fine, so i tried to start it again and it started normal except for a steering wheel and key flashing in the driver info window. I cleared all DTCs and turned car off and started again. It started up normally, except the transmission indicator has all the lights on. PNDS all had one red bar around it. ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, DID SOMEONE TRY TO BREAK INTO IT? hERE IS THE SCAN BEFORE I RESET DTCs.

If you're still on the original battery, there is a high possibility that it is dying.

battery is original, but display on mmi says 100%. Im sure the accuracy is a not that great but even at 80% it shoudlnt set the alarms and the unit started 5 - 10 min later. Not sure if by pulling fuses i reset something, but thats all i did and reset DTCs and she cranked right up. A friend did say it my be the sensor for the manifold flap or the flap motor itself. This would trigger a trans and engine alarm.

"steering wheel and key flashing in the driver info window"

That is what happened to mine. I'm thinking your is a problem is the sensor that goes bad in the steering column that tells the locking pin to lock/unlock the wheel.

I would go see if when you put the key in the ignition...... if the steering wheel un-locks..... and if it locks when you pull out the key.
I know the 3.2 has a different column than the mainly affected 4.2 liters in the a6/s5/a8 but I would bet thats what it is.

How many miles they usually take a dump around 65-70k. You gotta replace the whole column. f'n audi's...lol...gotta love um

Don't believe in the MMI battery indicator it has some issue I think there's a TSB for that. My said the same thing until I was stop in the highway..LOL Check with the VCDS all fiberoptic to see if the loop is completed..

My guess is that your battery is dying. The car has a computer that manages power distribution, restricting supply to non-essential components. Any electrical gremlins can arise which do not make any sense. I would suggest that you connect a battery charger to trickle charge when you disconnect and install the new battery. Thus, there will not be any loss of settings. You can get a replacement battery from a VW dealership with the same ratings and dimensions. It is the same battery supplier for Audi except that it doesn't have the "Audi" logo on it, so it will be cheaper. Review the manual for instructions on disconnecting the battery terminals.
Hope this helps.

Default starting

hope it does not happens again, but if it does don't start removing fuses as it will be worst to diagnose by tampering with memory stored in the system or crating more faults than actually may be there.
try a different key next time.
it seems the key lost communication with the car's electronics and by default the car's stater/authorization unit prevented from starting.
the battery is also a possibility but it would hardly come back like if nothing happened.
remotes however they do things like this preventing the transponder to communicate with the car.

Default dealer feed back

Ok, SO the dealer got the car and according to thier troubleshooting:
The immobilizier sensor is going bad, $1700 to replace. I love the fact that the hole column needs to be replaced. So even thou i could play the game of pulling the fuse and resetting DTCs, eventually this the control unit will go bad and leave me stuck. So i decided to just replace the unit.

Also another 1300 for the Intake manifild Flap motor (this was the original issue) has to be replaced. I think for this i might just take her to an indy for this service.

Everything else on her is running smooth and I have to say I still love driving this car. Thinking of getting a 2012 A6; i hear it will be much different than the 2011, but I probably still plan on keeping the '05.

I told ya....it was the switch in the steering column... we need to start are own business rebuilding those things. Really pissed me off when mine broke and..... ya mine stranded me and they had to car dolly it to the shop. locked up like someone was trying to steal it. We need to figure out how to bypass that stupid sensor that drops and operates the lock pin in the column. Sometimes too much computer control bs makes ya crazy. Good things these cars look so cool and rip it up on the road.... or i'd have ditched mine a few years ago...and bought a f'n buick...lol

Default Original battery might be the problem

Hi, I had the same issue with my 2006 A6 3.2L - 00288 - Steering Column Lock Actuator (N360).
It happened once and I bought the Ross Tech VAG-COM cable and cleared the code.
Car started and had no issues for months. Then it happened again and would repeat every 2nd or 3rd start. I was about to replace the steering column as others have done on here, then decided to check the battery. It was original 10 years old and even though battery meter in the MMI said it was 100% it would not hold a charge well enough. I replaced the battery at Walmart and I can now hear the steering lock motor operating the pin very much faster and has been reliable since. Hope this helps other owners who are struggling with this 'dead car' issue and don't have thousands to spend on fixing it at the dealer. BTW, Walmart battery is 900 CCA versus original 760 CCA from VW/Audi and $140 out the door. They changed the battery while the car was running to preserve the radio codes/computer settings. Cheers!
