Default parking brake failure

I am having issues with 2008 A6 3.2 quattro, i cannot get the car to shift into gear because of a "parking brake malfunction". The abs light is not on, car starts and everthing unlocks fine. I can move shifter to Drive and reverse fine, but car will not move under own power. I have tried the shift overide and several other things with no success. If i put car in neutral i can push and roll it so i know the parking brake is not stuck on. Any help is appreciated as i am over 70 miles from the nearest Audi dealership and 80 miles from the nearest Audi performance shop.

Welcome to the forum and the first thing you need to do is pull VCDS logs so that we can help troubleshoot. Get yourself a ross-tech cable and that's pretty well step 1. Other than that you can leverage the search function on the forum and see who else has had a similar occurrence.

so, while you are waiting.....assuming you haven't already tried--what happens when the park brake is engaged, and then released?

if the switch is bad, or if it gets unplugged, then you get that error (even once it's plugged back in).
engage/disengage clears the fault.

I can both engage and disengage the parking brake, when its applied the switch lights up, the indicator light in the dash turns on, and i cant roll my car, and it disengages when i push the brake pedal and push the switch in and the dash indicator turns and the switch turn off.

Check the electrical connectors to both Rear Brake calipers parking brake motors. These wiring harnesses are shorter than they need to be and they have been known to not always maintain full contact with the associated brake motor contact especially after jacking up the rear of the car. Good Luck
