Default Two codes with '09 S6

I plan to take my '09 S6 to a VW dealer this week for the 55k mile service rather than driving over an hour to a Audi dealer (sorry but I can't do it all myself).

While planning for the service I scanned my car and came up with two malfunctions in 01-Engine and 07-Control Head. I tried searching for the error codes but didn't find anything. I don't know how to cross reference these two codes. Any advice?

Do you have engine light on? If not, I would clear the codes and rescan after a couple of weeks. Sometimes, fault codes were recorded in the ECU when you took the car for some repair. It happened to mine. I took my car to the dealer to fix some noise issue inside the dashboard. The engine light was not on when I pickup the car. After driving home, I scanned the car, it reported a lot of faults related to the controls inside the dashboard.

Voltage: 9.652 V - how old is your battery? Normally you would see voltages over 13 V when engine on or 11 - 12 V when engine shut off. If the battery is really old and losing charge the car will start to utilize protocol shutting off certain systems while parked to prevent further discharge. Then you will see quite a lot codes.

As for the codes. The ignition switch circuit. Can you tell us how many miles is on the odo? You need to compare the mileage (converted to km) with the mileage registered on the code (Mileage: 94536 km). That will tell us if it's a fresh code or not. The code was only kicked out once and it may just be a fluke.

The second code indicates that one of the buttons on the MMI is sticking. Somebody probably spilled something on the buttons. It's really easy to do as the cup holder is right next the buttons. The code is fairly old (Date: 2015.02.04) and activated seven times. Probably it was really cold and whatever was spilled hardened up. Best way to fix this is to get Electronic Contact Cleaner spray and spray the buttons real good couple of times so the fluid penetrates under the buttons.

No check engine light, just the codes.

The mileage is 58k now so it looks like the Engine code was thrown recently (94K km = 58k mi). I might just get a new battery to be safe. I just bought the car recently so there is no telling when the battery was replaced.

Also get some electrical contact cleaner spray and see if those buttons can be unstuck.
