You can buy the VCDS cable from someone else but you will still have to purchase the PC program to make it work.

3.10 Can I sell my VCDS System to someone else?

You can sell the Interface, but PC-based activations and support are not transferable.

Yes, but some of the cables Ross-tech sells have activation built into the cable - no separate purchase of the software required. Note that it says "PC based activations".

All he would have to do with one of those authentic Ross-tech cable is download the VCDS software, which is available for free on their website.

My VCDS is one of those.
Can use it on as many PC's as I want.

Considering 'Black Friday' is around the corner, I'm sure these will be available on special through some of the bigger channels. Try to usual places that sell Ross-Tech cables and see what you can get...even used these typically go for $250 or more...they are WILL worth the $$.

I purchased one last month to enable the hidden menu. Apparently VCDS is not able to do that on 2016 models so I'm willing to sell if you want it.
