I've also had back issues for several years. Bought a prestige with the ventilated seats and have absolutely no issues with back pain. I agree with another poster that you have to adjust the seats in the driving position correctly. Plus there is an adjustable lumbar support in the prestige - not sure if your sheets have it or not??? The Allroad seats, however, really hug you in a cradle of comfort I cant explain.
Not only sport seats have lumbar adjustment. The sport seats have the pull out thigh support extenders, something totally different from lumbar support which I believe all the A7 seats have.

Does the A7 have the comfort seat option? I have them on my S7 and do not see how anyone could find them uncomfortable other than you have to adjust them which takes time.

I use the lumbar massage often just to keep things from tightening up in the back.

In Canada it is a $2750 option called Multicontour & Ventilation Package. It gives you 18-way power Comfort front seats with 4-way power lumbar support, memory system for both seats, ventilation and massage function as well as Valcona leather trim.

I have (touch wood) no issues but my wife has serious back problems. The new 2015 A7 TDI I just ordered will have this package. On top of that, we have already talked to a custom car interior place where they can modify the cushioning of the seat to accommodate various back problems. They told us to try it and see if the seats suit her as they come from the factory. If not, they will work on it. As we understand, it is a multi step process, they make a small adjustment and let you try it. They repeat that until the seat is satisfactory.

In my experience, less length in the seat the more the back pain. I'm 5'9" and could not drive more than thirty minutes without low back pain in an A6. My A8 has the thigh extension which when fully extended solves the problem. I can only imagine this effect is only amplified the taller you are. What did help some in the A6 was to lower the lumbar support down over the tailbone and raise the front of the seat fully up.

Default Audi Q5 Back and neck pain

Hi all,

Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. My Q5 was my first Audi and I love it except for the incredible lower back pain it causes me. I have never had back issues...ever...until I got my Q5. I generally don't have the pain except for when I drive the Q5, it starts about 20 minutes in and gets worse the longer I'm in the seat.

I am now seriously looking to trade the Q5 for an A7 and have been able to do two extended test drives in the A7. While the pain is better in the A7 it's not completely gone. I absolutely LOVE the A7 and am very close to pulling the trigger but I'm afraid of "jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire" kind of thing. Don't want to go through this saga a second time. From what I understand the seats in the A7 are VERY similar to the Q5 and my test drives seem to confirm that.

I've been to back specialists, adjusted the Q5 seat about 900 different ways, had an MRI (nothing), used back cushions, seat cushions all to no avail. One specialist suggested it may not be the seat at all but the vehicles ergos.

I posted this issue some time ago on the Q5 forum and no one else seemed to have the same issue. Was just wondering if any A7 owners out there have experienced this issue and if so, what they did about it.

I'm extremely bummed as this issue, which I never had before, is keeping me from enjoying a brand that I have really come to love. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have had a brand new Q5 (RHD) since April, and since then, I have had back and neck pain that have got progressively worse. Like you, I have adjusted my seat/steering wheel and just about every different combination of all settings, and I'm still in agony. I have a two hour round trip commute to my office, which is just making the problem even worse! The seats feel so hard, and I am now in the process of trying to source a decent cushion and back support to act as a shock absorber!

I’m the OP and I can tell you, shortly after getting the A7 I bought a “Back Joy” on Amazon, worked miracles for me! Had the A7 for seven great years and used the Back Joy every time I drove, back pain disappeared completely.

Interestingly, I bought a Tesla Model S this year and got rid of the A7. No more back pain but I did hold on to the Back Joy just in case. Here’s a link to it on Amazon. Good luck!

Get a car with the Multicontour & Ventilation Package. It gives you 18-way power Comfort front seats with 4-way power lumbar support, memory system for both seats, ventilation and massage function. It can be adjusted to the requirements of most people, as opposed to the limited adjustability of the standard seats. Take a test drive in an A7 that has this option installed!
