Default Center Speaker Replacement

Has anyone found a drop in replacement for the center speaker in an A7 dash?

The folks over on the A6 board have solved the common buzzing problem with the Bose unit using a Kenwood KFC-1065S. However based on my experience it seems that, although the A6 and A7 use the same Bose part, the available mounting depth is about 1/2" less in the A7.

Any insight much appreciated.

New owner here: I've been battling the same issue in mine. I was getting alot of grill rattle, and have fixed that by adding lots of felt tape on contact surfaces between the grille and the dash, as well as carefully adding a slight bit of hot glue on parts where the grill piece was rattling against itself.

Now that the rattle is gone, I can finally hear the speaker distorting :/

I haven't pulled the speaker to look at it, though when I worked in the car audio industry years ago, Bose used 8 ohm speakers, so I would be hesitant to put a 4 ohm speaker in its place.

I have had good luck ordering individual speakers from some online audio suppliers (PM me if you want more info, I don't know all the rules here, and don't want to sound like I'm advertising for anyone).

I should be able to get my speaker pulled this weekend, I'll update with what I decide to do if anyone is interested.

how high do you go (volume) before it starts to distort? I noticed a rattle as well in my passenger side sub and center, might use that felt technique..

Default Removed

I ended up pulling the speaker completely while I search for a replacement. I'm not sure if it's purely psychological, but the system sounds infinitely better without the speaker rattle.

There's a recall for that. I got mine replaced by the dealership at no cost. Later I will check the documents and post the details.

Removed it from my A6 as the mono sound emanating from the center speaker overwhelmed all the others. Better sound now by far !

Bose system on A6/A7 has 4" midrange all over in 4 doors and center channels. They could be very few drop-in because most of them after market speakers are designed with 4 drilling holes. They should come with a 2 to 4 holes adaptor.

Yet the depth is most likely not going to be an issue.

Rattling could be another story. You tried the dynamite before?
