Phantom Black 2016 A7--Gone!
A7 Team Members,
I went to place the order for a new 2016 A7 and, to my surprise, Phantom Black has been replaced with Mythos Black. Mythos is a more true black, but, nowhere near the brilliance and depth of Phantom Black with hues of gray metallic.
The dealer said that, under the Audi Exclusive Program, I could get any color including Phantom Black--but, $3,900 upgrade for the now 'custom' paint.
I asked the dealer to triple check with the Audi USA folks just to make certain that the color has been eliminated. I checked the Audi UK website where you can now build a 2016 and, in fact, Phantom Black has disappeared from the palette. So, I presume it really is gone which is a tad surprising.
I am now looking strongly at the Havana Black which has a lot of brown hues to it with the brown interior.
If any forum member has this car/color combination, I would appreciate some photos.
Also, if you are interested in the new Black Optic package (all black-out including wheels), this is only available on the 20" wheels on the A7 (although it's available on the 19 and 20" wheels on the A6).
I am currently an owner of a 2014 A7 with the non-sport pkg and 20" wheels. I have a seen a lot of posting on the wheel issues and I had to replace the tires on mine. The 20" wheels are 35 series tires and the alloys do not take kindly to the slightest touch of a curb. I am going with 19" and the sport pkg this time to achieve a firmer ride, yet, more compliant and quieter tire. If others have strong feelings against 19" and sport pkg, I would welcome the exchange.
Thanks

If you want brilliance and depth, why not choose Brilliant Black? BB is so much deeper and richer than Phantom Black could ever be. I have never understood the popularity of PB over BB. If you are going to get a black car, why not go the distance with a true black that is absent of any metallic or pearl?
The golden metallic in the Havana Black gives the same illusion to me of brown dirt sitting on black paint. Of course when it is sparkling clean for ten minutes, it will look good.
